5 Signs You Should Leave Your Finance Job Sooner Rather Than Later

The thought of leaving a job can create a stress response.

Whether it’s rooted in fear of change, or maybe a realization that the grass is not always greener on the other side, sometimes we stay in a role longer than we should.

Pay attention to the following signs, they’re usually an indication that it’s time to transition out.

Manager Conflict
There’s a lot of truth in the saying that people leave managers not jobs. If your manager doesn’t back his or her team, is disrespectful or lacks leadership skills, this can greatly diminish both your ability to succeed and your peace of mind.

No Growth
If the learning has stopped and your opportunity to grow your professional skill set is limited that is a sign that it may be time to look in a different direction.

Core Value Disconnect
Sometimes there can be a core value disconnect between your values and your company’s. This usually manifests in a dissatisfaction with your company’s culture. Perhaps there’s an organization that would be a better core value fit.

No Advancement
If you crave opportunities to lead or manage a team and there’s no room for advancement in your current company a change of scene might be required to gain the experience you want.

Dysfunctional Team
Working as a member of a productive team can be incredibly rewarding. Correspondingly, working with a team mired in dysfunction can be intensely stressful. If your team just can’t get it together and there’s no reprieve in sight, start looking at your options.

We spend so many of our waking hours working, it just doesn’t make sense to be in a role that makes us dissatisfied. If the learning has stopped, there’s no opportunity for advancement, or a reprieve from a dysfunctional team seems unlikely, your best option is to begin building your exit strategy.
