3 Things to Do After Accounting Interviews

You have finished your accounting interview and feel that you have hit a home run.

Rather than passively waiting on tenterhooks for the phone to ring, here are 3 things you can do to increase your odds of being the successful candidate.

Send a Thank-You Card/Email

Even if you typically excel in accounting interviews, the icing on the proverbial cake comes in the form of a well-written thank-you card or email. Make sure to be concise and appropriate.  Run it past either your recruiter, or someone who can give you objective feedback. And since you are in an industry that prioritizes accuracy, ensure that your thank-you card or email is devoid of spelling or grammatical errors.

Follow-up

While delivering during the interview is important, so is following up.  Connecting with either the company or your recruiter within a week of the interview is a great idea. Seek out feedback and be open to both positive and/or constructive messages. Be humble, gracious and thank the individual for taking the time to speak with you.

Attend Other Interviews

Even if you feel the interview went well, still attend your other accounting interviews. Firstly, you never want to put all of your eggs in one basket. Secondly, every interview is an opportunity to build another business connection that can potentially bear fruit down the road.

By practicing the three tips listed above you keep yourself front of mind with your prospective employer, open yourself to possible opportunities and position yourself for landing your next role.
