Meet Ana Garcia, Senior Recruitment Associate on Our Search Team

Meet Ana Garcia

Ever wonder how a career in accounting could evolve into a passion for helping others find their professional path? Ana Garcia is one of our newest team members at Clarity Recruitment, whose journey from Big 4 accounting to recruitment offers insights on finding purpose beyond the numbers. At Clarity, we’re always excited to welcome new talent with unique stories. Here’s an enormous welcome to our latest Senior Recruitment Associate, Ana Garcia

Tell us something interesting about you that’s not on your resume.

I actually had a couple of different creative passions before settling on a business career. I was a hairstylist throughout high school and did cosmetology school; that’s probably the first time I realized I loved client-facing work. I also started university studying music. I had trained as a vocalist since I was a child and, while I didn’t end up pursuing these professionally, music definitely remains a hobby.

You have an accounting background from a Big 4 public accounting firm. What skills do you plan to bring with you into your new role at Clarity?

As a senior at KPMG in the Enterprise practice, I observed how different finance teams operated within my client base, primarily within oil and gas services, wealth management, non-profits, the private sector and media & entertainment. During this time, I developed a good understanding of the different types of working environments and what types of companies and talent profiles are the best match. In my beginnings at Clarity, I have also noticed how valuable my accounting background is in understanding client processes and sharing this information with candidates. The ability to understand our client’s systems or the details about their month-end process is essential to evaluating the right fit for their company, industry, and growth level.

What are you most excited about in your new chapter as Accountant-turned-Recruiter?

I am excited to hear about others’ journeys and play a little part in helping them get to where they want to be. My favourite part of being at the firm was connecting with my colleagues and clients. Whether it was mentoring my staff or chatting about career goals with my superiors, it was always fascinating to hear someone’s life story and how the accounting profession played a part.

I really believe that everyone has a place where they can enjoy a career and feel the resulting impact of what they do each day, rather than working a job that isn’t aligned to personal objectives. I’m excited to help people find these opportunities.

We’re always looking for recommendations – what are you currently reading/watching/listening to? (Netflix, podcasts, books etc.).

I recently finished watching Shogun on Disney+ in a single weekend– what an incredible series!!! And, this one isn’t new, but I recently watched “A Man Called Otto” starring Tom Hanks on Netflix and it is one of the most heartfelt movies I have seen; it will make you both laugh and cry.

As for books, I have been interested in learning about neuroplasticity and enjoyed reading a book called “The Source” by Tara Stewart. I learned a ton of easily applicable habits to improve my day-to-day life.

And one more! Another good read is History of the World in 6 Glasses by Tom Standage. The title truly does explain what the book is about and it’s a neat perspective to learn about history.

We know how you’ll be spending your 9-5. What keeps you busy outside of work in your 5-9?

I am such a foodie! A lot of my 5-9 involves baking, cooking dinner with friends and family, and checking out new restaurants.

I recently completed my first 10K run and just signed up for a half marathon next year as well, so we’ll see how training goes in the winter! My golden retriever tags along for runs too, but she far prefers playing fetch and cuddles before bedtime.
