What’s driving finance compensation in 2026

Compensation rose across nearly every level of the finance function this year, as companies compete for a smaller pool of qualified candidates. A few patterns stand out.

Hybrid work has stabilized rather than reversed. It remains the dominant arrangement, and among hybrid teams, three days in office is now the most common policy. Demand has shifted toward a specific skill set: hands-on ERP and systems experience, financial reporting depth across all levels, and increasingly, proficiency with AI and automation tools. Candidates who can reduce manual work and bring AI into finance workflows are commanding a premium. Most hiring continues to come from private and PE-backed companies, where the pace of growth keeps demand for finance talent high.
