Meet Ying, Former Finance Professional Turned Recruiter with Clarity Recruitment

Before joining Clarity Recruitment, Ying worked in finance and accounting for over 15 years. Now she’s using her expertise to help finance consultants build their careers.

Tell us something interesting about you that’s not on your resume.

I spent most of my childhood learning the violin and, although I can hardly play a tune these days, I like to have some Classical music playing quietly in the background as I’m working.  It keeps me relaxed and focused because I can’t sing along!

Before joining Clarity, you worked in finance for over a decade. What was the most surprising thing you encountered when you became a recruiter?

I was surprised and impressed with the collaboration between the different teams and functions.  Recruiters and Engagement Managers exchange insights regularly to help clients and candidates find a win-win solution. I’m also still amazed at how our recruiters can remember most of the candidates that they interact with.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about making the transition from accounting to recruitment?

My advice would be to pay close attention to recruiters when they are approaching you for an accounting role. Observe how they interact with you and try to picture that for yourself to see if it’s something you would enjoy doing on a daily basis.

You now spend most of your time talking to candidates about potential opportunities, what advice would you give to CPAs looking to switch jobs right now?

The market is active so it’s a great time to explore. Set reasonable expectations, think about companies/industries that are exciting and take action!

We’re always looking for recommendations – what are you currently watching/listening to?

The last show I watched was the Wheel of Time because I’m a fan of Rosamund Pike.
